La morida
“La Morida” is a three-hour performance reflecting on life and death. At the start, I remove my clothes, put on pajamas, and go to sleep — I die. During this “death,” I carry out a grooming ritual: washing my clothes and face, shaving, brushing my teeth.
This project was presented at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago as part of Auto Portrait Spectacular, where 21 artists were invited to use their cars as vessels for artwork, modes of public engagement, performance stages, or artworks themselves. The event took place in the museum’s parking lot on Sunday, September 29, from 2–7 PM. For this occasion, Gabriela Estrada Loochkartt and Pablo Lazala Ruiz curated an exhibition in, on, and around a moving truck (U-Haul) “Algo así como un sancocho, entre un paseo de olla y un trasteo”, where my performance took place.
